Magnum opus

turrellscrater|I always loved the installations of James Turrell as much as the work of Amish Kapoor. Since 1972 Turrell is working on his magnum opus: the Roden crater project. A monumental environmental artwork with chambers and observation platforms in the crater, in line with the sun, moon, stars, and planets. It is inspired by ancient sites like Stonehenge and Egyptian temples. Space, the materials of the earth, distance and even time are not only revealed by light, they are illusions created by light. Roden Crater is a volcano near Arizona.
