Modernity with heritage envelop character @ Chanel

mvrdvchanel_themotor|The idea behind this flagship store is that through globalisation of retail, ugly high-end shopping streets have been delivered and all original architecture has gone (think of Singapore). The transparent façade follows the original architecture with recycable bricks and glass window and door frames. The solid glass bricks were individually crafted in Italy. Transparent adhesive to cement the bricks together was created in Germany and Dutch full-fat milk proved to be an ideal liquid to function as a reflective surface for the levelling of the first layer of bricks! A ground source heat pump (which goes 170 metres underground) helps maintaining a perfect indoor climate. Please click here for the movie. Store Chanel, Amsterdam. Architecture MVRDV
