The Fountainhead

The Fountainhead

aynrandbyolympia|’The Fountainhead’ (L) made a big impression on me while in High School. Philosopher Ayn Rand advocates reason, individualism, and personal happiness and in 1940 she already defended a woman’s right to abortion, freedom of speech, and attacked racism. Quote from the book: “Independence is the only gauge of human virtue and value. What a man is and makes of himself; not what he has or hasn’t done for others. There is no substitute for personal dignity.” One more: “Man’s unique reward, however, is that while animals survive by adjusting themselves to their background, man survives by adjusting his background to himself.” Clutch (R) Olympia Le Tan
