|At the AutoRai you can see a beautiful Studebaker Avanti sports car, designed in the early 1960s – within 40 days – by design legend Raymond Loewy. The Studebaker management felt that the company needed a product that would boost its slipping image. The Avanti was one of the first aerodynamic glassfibre cars with special aircraft-type controls. The luxurous interior included ‘a beauty vanity tray that will surely interest the ladies’. Levi Strauss called the car ‘an aerodynamic wedge designed to defy the wind‘.
